Our school is named after a local educator noted for his commitment to developing school programs. Elmer S. Gish was raised on a farm near Stettler and taught in a country school before joining the Royal Canadian Navy. After the war, he attended the University of Alberta and earned his Bachelor of Education and Master of Arts degrees. During the 1960s he developed Edmonton's first vocational high school and, in 1970, became this district's third superintendent of schools. He had been retired only a short time when the Board of Trustees honoured his hard work by naming our school after him.
